Still doing this by hand?

One annoying job. One small tool.

Not every business problem needs another platform. If you keep copying the same information, fighting the same spreadsheet, doing the same calculation or repeating a small admin task that should be easier, a focused tool may be enough.

Tell me what you are doing now. I will look at the job and work out the smallest useful thing that could remove it.

Small problems become permanent surprisingly easily.

You usually notice the repeated job before you think of it as a software problem.
  • We copy that into this every morning.
  • That spreadsheet works, but everyone hates it.
  • I calculate that manually every time.
  • We have to reformat this before we can use it.
  • Someone has to check three places to answer that.
  • We built a workaround years ago and never changed it.

Small means focused, not disposable.

A Small Tool solves one clearly defined job without trying to become another all-in-one platform. The right tool depends on the job; these are examples of what it might do.

I do not start by asking how much software I can build.
I start by asking how little software would solve the problem.

The goal is not to create another system for you to maintain. The goal is to remove the annoying job.

  • Calculate or convert

A calculator or converter for a calculation you repeat.

  • Format data

CSV and spreadsheet helpers that turn an input into the format you need.

  • Generate an output

A document, report or other output made from the information you enter.

  • Check or track something

A small internal dashboard, tracker or reporting helper for one clear question.

  • Enter information once

A form-based utility or simple data-entry tool that avoids repeated typing.

  • Handle a short workflow

A lightweight workflow tool or simple interface for a defined automation.

If an existing Simply Works product already solves the job, use that instead.

Agree the job before building the tool.

The scope is reduced before development starts, so you know what is being built and what it costs.
  1. Show me the job

Describe what you do now and why it is annoying.

  2. I reduce the scope

I work out the smallest useful version that would actually remove the problem.

  3. I confirm the price

You know the agreed scope and fixed price before I start.

  4. I build and test it

I build the tool, test the important paths and hand over the agreed result.

If the job is becoming a full software project rather than a Small Tool, I will tell you before it turns into one.

Start with the smallest useful tool.

Small Tools are priced around the job being solved and the complexity of delivering it reliably. These are starting prices; I confirm the scope and fixed price before work begins.
  • Small Tool Sprint

One tightly defined job, usually one primary function with minimal workflow complexity.

    From£249

  • Small Business Tool

A small workflow involving a few steps or screens.

    From£495

  • Connected Tool

A focused tool that needs more moving parts.

    From£995

See full Small Tool pricingHandover, hosting, third-party costs and ongoing support are agreed as part of the scope.

When a Small Tool stops being small.

Sometimes an enquiry turns out to need a larger application or ongoing product development. If that happens, I will explain why rather than forcing it into a Small Tool package.

Small Tools are not intended for:

  • Large applications or multi-team systems
  • Open-ended product development or indefinite feature roadmaps
  • Enterprise transformation projects
  • Unlimited revisions or permanent on-call development

Built and tested by me

I use modern AI-assisted development alongside my own software experience to build focused tools quickly. The tool is still designed, reviewed and tested by me.

The technology is there to reduce unnecessary development overhead, not to replace judgement. Depending on the job, that might mean Python, JavaScript or Vue / Nuxt. You are buying the result, not a framework.

Not sure what needs fixing yet? If you can see that customers or staff are getting stuck but cannot see the cause, start with a Friction Audit.

Tell me the annoying job.

Show me what you do now and what the result should be. I will help find the smallest useful version, then confirm the scope and fixed price before work starts.
